A different kind of weekend
We have had a such a fun, spontaneous (which is very out of the ordinary for us) weekend as a family! Friday night was Art Night here in Pasadena, which meant that all of the museums in town were open and had free admission for the evening! One of the many things we love about living in Pasadena!!
We had never been to the Kidspace museum and it was one of the museums that was open, so after dinner we decided to head down and check it out. It was so much fun, they had a great space for toddlers Sophi's age and so much for kids of all ages!
While we were there we noticed the museum was setting up for their annual Pumpkin festival that would be taking place Saturday and Sunday. So Saturday morning we decided to head back down to see what this Pumpkin Festival was all about! Despite the heat, we had a blast.
There were all kinds of things to do, and Sophi had such a good time simply taking it all in!
She loved playing with the pumpkins,

jumping in the bouncy house
watching the petting zoo from a distance (this was NOT a hit up close),
and making fun crafts!
We even met up with our friends Ellen and Jeff, their daughter Caroline, and their new addition, baby Harris!
Saturday afternoon was spent napping, watching some Auburn football with Ellen and Jeff and then going to church (we love having the option of Saturday night service). Today was spent fellowshiping with our Life Group. It has been a while since we have all been together and it was so nice to be with them. They are one of the things we will miss the most whenever we move, they are our family away from family and we love them each dearly!
Without tv, our weekend looked a bit different than it used to and we have to say we really enjoyed it! More updates on our first week without tv coming soon!

The year of no tv
A while back I blogged about our decision as a family to go without tv for a year. Well today marks the official first day of our "no tv "year!
Needless to say this past week we crammed in about all the tv we could stand, watching EVERYTHING we had recorded and watching things we didn't even care that much about! Last night was bitter sweet as we turned off our tv for the last time.
When we called to cancel our cable this evening and explained our reason for canceling the representative's response was "that's weird." She may have said out loud what many of you are thinking now! And that is totally ok. We know it is a little weird. Our hope is that this next year we will grow closer as a couple and a family as well as growing closer to our God. Not to mention all the neat hobbies we are sure to acquire in the process!
When we mention our new family dynamic to others they often ask what our "rules" will be. So here they are:
1. No TV in our house for one year (Octber 4, 2010 to October 4, 2011)
2. One movie rental once a month for a date night/family night
3. One in theater movie every other month for a date night
4. News podcast may be watched ONLY while running on the treadmill
5. TV may be watched while on vacation, when invited to friends houses, or if we have family staying with us who can somehow figure out how to hook up their sling box to our tv (Lolly and Pops!) - We don't want to force our decision as family on anyone else.
Tonight we went out for icecream to celebrate the start of this new adventure as a family.
We look forward to sharing all the ups and downs of this journey with you!
So here is question for ya: once the kids are in bed and you have the house to yourselves what kinds of things (besides watching tv) do you like to do before going to bed?

Cruisin'
The last week of our trip home Josh and I went on a cruise, our first trip away from Sophi. We planed this special vacation to celebrate our 5 year anniversary which happened this past March, celebrating Josh's huge accomplishment of becoming ABD (all but dissertation) last month, as well as celebrating one year of parenthood!
And although we were sad to leave
I love you!
